Almost everyone encounters it sooner or later "pigmentation spots." These spots are usually dark in color, what we call hyperpigmentation, but they can also be light or even white, which is known as hypopigmentation.
If you are in doubt as to whether a skin spot is a pigmentation spot, or if a spot changes in shape, color or size, we always recommend having it assessed by your doctor or a specialist. This way you can be assured of a correct diagnosis and treatment.
What are Pigment spots?
Pigment spots occur because the skin produces more or less pigment (melanin) in certain areas. They are usually harmless and pose no health risk. Still, many people find them cosmetically disturbing and look for ways to reduce them
Hyperpigmentation of the skin involves an accumulation of pigment which manifests as a brown, gray or sometimes black spot. Pigment spots are caused by excessive production of melanin.
The sun or influence of hormones, for example during pregnancy (Melasma) can also be a cause. A treatment for pigmentation spots is customized. During a consultation, the Skin Therapist will assess the pigmentation spots and draw up a treatment plan.
