Sagging skin
Home " Skin Problems " Sagging skin
As we age, the skin gradually loses its firmness and elasticity. This is because the body produces less collagen and elastin, the proteins that give the skin structure and elasticity. In addition, fatty tissue under the skin also decreases, which can cause the skin to droop.
What is sagging skin?
Sagging skin is skin that has become less firm, elastic and resilient. This means that the skin does not spring back as well after being stretched, causing it to droop, sag or feel less tight. This may be visible as loose skin folds, wrinkles or a reduced contour of the face.
Main causes of sagging skin:
- Decrease of collagen and elastin in the skin due to the natural aging process
- Sunlight damage (UV radiation) that weakens connective tissue
- Loss of subcutaneous fat and fluid
- Smoking and unhealthy lifestyle
- Rapid weight fluctuations that stretch the skin
